BIKING TOURS

For centuries, the vehicle of choice in Southeast Asia has been the bicycle.  And while motorbikes and cars are becoming more popular in the cities, you still find most of the rural population pedaling to work, the market, school, or just for fun.

Traveling the local way is also the best way to experience the beauty of the region.  Taking in the sights and sounds from the saddle of your bike you get a true vision of what life is really like in rural villages.  And cycling amongst famous sites gives you a different perspective on traditional tourist sites.

Southeast Asia’s varied terrain means that a biking journey is possible for road cyclists, mountain bikers, or weekend cruisers.  Long stretches of sealed pavement are perfect for a long journey between cities while steep dirt tracks in the highlands are ideal for downhill mountain biking.  Or bike across borders, a challenging, yet rewarding, way to experience the diversity of Southeast Asia.  From Bangkok one can pedal in to Cambodia and across to Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region.  Extremely fit cyclists can travel from Vietnam’s northern mountains, through remote hilltribe villages, and into Laos.  Follow the Mekong River as it winds from Southern Laos in to Cambodia for some of Asia’s most breathtaking scenery.

If an epic biking journey is not your idea of a holiday, then short excursions can be arranged in most destinations in Southeast Asia.  A half day spent pedaling around a major city such as Hanoi or Bangkok can show you the great contrast between modern and traditional Asia.  Attractions such as the temples of Bagan and Siem Reap are also spectacular places for biking.  Exploring the ancient ruins from ground level helps you discover hidden sites that might not be seen from the window of a fast moving car.

And in between, short multi-day biking tours can add a unique twist to a standard Southeast Asia travel itinerary.  Spend a few days along the quiet backroads of Vietnam’s Mekong Delta or Thailand’s Koh Yao Island, or pedal along the Mekong River in southern Laos and soak up some of the most rustic and picturesque sights in Asia.

At Great Adventures by Exotissimo we can create a tailor-made cycling holiday that has just the right blend of activity, cultural exploration and pure relaxation. From flat pathways to steep, winding mountain roads there is a biking route perfect for you!
