This is private overland journey through the north and central areas of Thailand, a region rich in cultural and natural attractions. Your journey begins in Bangkok where you will visit colorful temples and bustling Chinatown, tour historic waterways and explore the beautiful ruins of Ayuthaya. Heading north at a gentle pace you will find the charms of rural Thailand but very few tourists. Your adventure into the past continues in Sukhothai, the former kingdom filled with thousands of ancient temples and priceless Buddhist sculptures. You will visit tranquil rice fields and fascinating ruins, strolling along peaceful river banks while stopping at vibrant local markets. Heading further into north Thailand we bring you to Chiang Mai, where ancient wonders coexist with modern Thai style. Explore the city's Lanna culture and history, visiting local villages, markets, museums and glorious old temples. Your experiential travel adventure continues with elephant trekking, bamboo rafting and visits to local markets and traditional villages before we bring you back to your Chiang Mai hotel. A day of intrigue follows at the infamous Golden Triangle, where you'll learn about the region's opium trade and get a closer look at Laos and Burma during a river boat ride. Your Asia travel adventure continues near the Laotian border when we bring you to a Chinese nationalist outpost in an area formerly off-limits. Relax in a local village before climbing to a border peak that offers breathtaking views over Laos. Your journey ends with a visit to lovely Chiang Rai.

Day 1 - Arrive Bangkok  

On arrival in Bangkok you will be welcomed by your tour guide and taken to your boutique hotel. We will bring you to Wat Po, one of the oldest temples in Bangkok and home to the original school of traditional Thai massage. Then you'll enjoy a relaxed tour of the nearby Grand Palace, with its many colourful halls, temples and artifacts including the most revered Buddha image in Thailand.

Day 2 - Bangkok (B)  

Today your Bangkok adventure begins with a walking tour of Chinatown, as you visit unique markets, Chinese temples and teashops. Travel through the city's famed canals and witness traditional Thai living before visiting the iconic Wat Arun. In the afternoon, you're free to explore Bangkok's attractions at your own pace.

Day 3 - Depart Bangkok - Ayuthaya - Uthai Thani (B,L,D)  

Drive to legendary Ayuthaya, the capital of Thailand for more than 417 years, stopping at a tranquil former summer palace built by King Rama IV en route. You'll visit Ayuthaya Historical Park's ruined temples and enjoy a pleasant riverside lunch before continuing north to Ang Thong province to a lovely temple on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River and visit a local drum-making village.

Overnight in Uthai Thani.  

Day 4 - Uthai Thani - Sukhothai (B,L)  

After breakfast your Thailand tour takes you to the legendary city of Sukhothai, the kingdom's first capital, where you'll explore its beautiful temples, historic relics and breathtaking Buddhist images.

Overnight in Sukhothai.  

Day 5 - Sukhothai - Kampaeng Phet - Phitsanuloke - Sukhothai (B,L)  

Today we'll bring you to Kampaeng Phet, a 900-year-old province filled with fascinating ruins highlighting its splendid past. In the afternoon you'll head to bustling Phitsanuloke for a tour of the city's highlights. Enjoy a stroll along the river bank and visit a local market before heading back to Sukhothai.

Overnight in Sukhothai.  

Day 6 - Sukhothai - Chiang Mai (B,L)  

A short drive north will bring you to the Si Satchanalai Historical Park on the bank of the Yom River. You'll enjoy a leisurely tour of this ancient town, where 134 ruined monuments have been discovered. After lunch you'll continue your overland adventure as we take you to check-in to your Chiang Mai hotel.

Day 7 - Chiang Mai (B,L)  

Spend the morning exploring Chiang Mai's sights and sounds as you visit ancient temples, markets, Thai style residential areas, unique architectural gems and bustling main street before heading to a local orphanage. In the afternoon we will take you up the mountain to visit Wat Prathat Doi Suthep, the most famous and sacred temple in northern Thailand, as well as a traditional Hmong village.

Day 8 - Chiang Mai - Elephant Camp (B,L)  

Enjoy a real Thailand experience today as we take you on an elephant ride though thick forests and visit a local elephant camp before heading to the Mae Ping River for a leisurely bamboo rafting ride. After lunch you'll visit a beautiful orchid nursery and a colorful butterfly farm.


Overnight in Chiang Mai.  

Day 9 - Chiang Mai - Golden Triangle (B,L)  

Today you'll travel east by minivan to the lovely Mae Kampong village, which sits 1,300 meters above sea level and boasts a cool climate all year long. Upon arrival meet some of the villagers and learn more about Thai culture before visiting a local waterfall. After lunch and a short rest, you'll have a chance to enjoy the mountain scenery as we drive you to Chiang Rai.

Day 10 - Chiang Rai - Mae Sai - Chiang Saen - Chiang Rai (B,L)  

After breakfast we'll bring you to bustling Mae Sai where you can check out an intriguing Burmese border market before heading to the infamous Golden Triangle. Find out about the area's sordid past at the Opium Museum then continue to the 13th century ruined city of Chiang Saen and the heart of the Golden Triangle. Your day of travel in Thailand ends with a boat ride along the Mekong River to get a closer look at Laos and Burma - experiential travel at its best.

Overnight in Chiang Rai.  

Day 11 - Chiang Rai - Departure (B)  

This morning we'll take you for short tour of Chiang Rai to see the famous Wat Pra Kaew before saying bon voyage as we bring you to Chiang Rai airport for your flight to Bangkok or return to Chiang Mai by car.
